Philipp Meyer grew up in a working-class neighbourhood in Baltimore, and attended city public schools until dropping out at age 16. He spent the following five years working as a bicycle mechanic and volunteering at Baltimore’s Shock Trauma Center. He decided to become a writer at aged 20 and at 22 he was admitted to Cornell University, graduating with a degree in English. His novels include American Rust and The Son. He lives in the United States.
