Dawn Upshaw and the Australian Chamber Orchestra

Australia/USA

Wed 19 Feb 2014

Music to fall in love with the first time – then immediately want to hear again.
NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO (USA)

In this superb union, world renowned soprano Dawn Upshaw joins the much lauded Australian Chamber Orchestra to perform Maria Schneider’s profoundly beautiful Winter Morning Walks. What flows from this synthesis is an unbroken stream of lyrical beauty.

As a four-time Grammy Award winner, Upshaw has received worldwide acclaim for her operatic and concert repertoire. Her voice, in its sweeping range from the sacred works of Bach to today’s contemporary compositions, brings music to life.

Composed by Schneider especially for Upshaw and the ACO, and featuring a trio of brilliantly versatile jazz musicians, Winter Morning Walks is a melodic wonder. Matched with this very special piece is a flourish of Romantic string orchestra works – Elgar’s exhilarating Introduction and Allegro and Grieg’s enduringly popular Holberg Suite.
