Batsheva Dance Company

Deca Dance

Israel

9-12 Feb 2014

Australian Exclusive/Premiere

Life, vivid and vital life: that’s really what everyone, in performance or protest, is exalting here. THE EVENING STANDARD (UK)

A staggeringly impressive 20-year repertoire is remixed by Batsheva in this Australian exclusive, with the compilation of Naharin’s seminal moments creating a single production of disarming emotion. There is ecstasy and vulnerability, mesmeric solos and ritualistic ensembles. Different worlds are explored, transformed and presented as something astonishingly new. A boldly playful score sees the company’s devotion to adventurous concepts pour over into a perfect musical accompaniment. Deca Dance is an engaging collage from a choreographic master.

One of the world’s greatest dance companies, Batsheva was founded 50 years ago by Martha Graham and has never before performed in Western Australia. We are thrilled to present two gripping and contrasting productions – Deca Dance and Sadeh21 – both guaranteed to take you on a choreographic journey of raw vitality and immense power.

Acclaimed Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, leads Batsheva with astounding energy and wit. Naharin’s name is synonymous with the future of contemporary dance. Movements pulsate with history and heart, politics and place, and the results are startling. In a collision of fiery individualism, Batsheva is a formidable force, evocatively telling stories with their unique language of movement.

In this coming together of the best dancers from around the world, bodies are translated into kinetic works of living visual art. Be captivated by one of the world’s most inspirational and sought after companies. You will be astounded.
